Many fans of Lark Voorhies were confused after her mother's claims on People magazine and Lark's behavior in many interviews about whether or not she has bipolar disorder.
In detail, Lark's mother, Tricia, confessed to People magazine in 2012 that her daughter is "mentally ill," stating: "There are things that have traumatized her. I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life." In an interview with People, Voorhies told that she isn't sick and her mother was "over-loving."
"Oh no," she was quoted as saying, adding: "We're alive in a major time of all-in-all prophecy."
Voorhies also denied her mother's allegations in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," revealing to host Christina McLarty: "I have no worries myself, nor do I exude, exhibit or possess within my living stratus any reason why someone should worry (on) my behalf…It's completely fictional."
Struggling to complete a coherent sentence, when asked by "Entertainment Tonight" how she manages to stay strong, Voorhies responded: "It's much like fighting…when you enlist in the Army, you get yourself physically fit, mentally fit and informational-wise fit, so it's just the same. It's like stage boot camp. You know, you put all the right elements together and you keep them going…we have to be entertainers. This is our particular angle."
Asked whether or not she's bipolar, Voorhies told ABCNews.com: "no comment."
When asked by celebrity website TMZ if she is bipolar, Voorhies found difficulty in expressing her thoughts, taking abnormally long pauses and speaking nonsensically, stating: "Well you know, people want to express themselves and…you know, they will do so at free random."
"The particular trade editorial (presumably People) and I are not in agreement, however. It's so far left from what was actually atrast (???) or brought about," Voorhies added.
It has to be noted that reports regarding Voorhees' mental illness began after she started showing bizarre behavior during a Yahoo interview in 2011 and in a series of interviews with People, which described her mumbling to herself and abruptly stopping what she was saying. When asked to explain her behavior, Voorhies explained: "I have a strong spiritual sense. You caught me in moments of pray."
On the other hand, her mother Tricia wasn't the only one to make claims about Lark's mental health. Her former "Saved By The Bell" co-star Dustin Diamond, told celebrity website RadarOnline of a strange recent shoot with Voorhies on an indie movie called "Little Creeps." At first she seemed normal, Diamond stated, but as the night progressed she delayed saying her lines and went AWOL between takes. "The person who said "Hi" to me when she first showed up on-set was not the same person at the end of the night," he stated, adding: "It was like talking to two different people."
It is obvious that Lark Voorhies hasn't come to terms with her mental illness and feels uncomfortable to talk about it. If the media outlets keep on questioning her about such a private and sensitive issue, it would only make matters worse. As for her family and people close to her, they should protect her more... What do you think?
